My guess is that the CCAA is an 8,000 meter race, Bauhs' time would be a pretty amazing if it was a 10k

Yeah this week there were alot of JV teams racing, and I am sorry that I did not list that it was a JV team every single time, most cases I put that the meet it self was a JV meet and therefore hoped that it would be inferred that all the teams held out their top runners.
As for Point, I tend to agree with you, which is why I picked them in the WIAC..any suggestions for the next conference I preview, I only have a few more days and would like to put up atleast 2 a day |

I just started getting into running again this spring and was doing a lot of barefooting because I heard about this new 'less is more' minimalistic approach to running. Years ago, I had serious shin problems (tibial stress fracture), so I wanted to ease myself back into the groove of training regularly. I was really surprised at how well my lower legs responded and how little shin trouble I encountered. When you can feel the ground better you can feel all the stresses that you're lower legs are undergoing, and develop more coordinated muscles and technique. I was able to increase the volume and intensity of my workouts way quicker than I thought I would.
I haven't had any injuries or anything, even though this summer I made a switch to the expensive cushy-ish Nike Vomeros for roads. I don't think I really need them, I think they are too expensive and too cushy (although there are worse on the market for sure). I want something like a Nike Free or AdiZero in the future. I totally believe in the minimalist approach if you are a serious runner, we are genetically designed to run on our bare feet. Look at all the great African runners who developed their aerobic base in youth running miles and miles barefoot. |

maybe the people with more expensive shoes run more...thus more injuries. I think the shoe cost logic could skew the results.

i'm a human performance major and what i feel that poster is trying to express is that you should find the most minimalist shoe for yourself not that everyone should train in racing flats. one person may be able to train in the ds trainers were as another maybe able to train in the vibram fivefingers

No assumption really.
I have a friend who I was having a debate with regarding Lydiard training. He came back to me with something about me having heard of this Maffetone system. I didn't know anything about Maffetone, so I did some research fully expecting Maffetone to be so different from Lydiard - diametrically and philisophically oppossed - as my friend was so against Lydiard. As I read I started to laugh to myself as I realized it wasn't my lack of Maffetone familiarty that was the problem, but his lack of Lydiard knowledge. I laughed knowing that I was going to have to explain to my bud that the method he is so oppossed to is based on the very same principles as the one he supports. The major differences are in the use of HRMs Lydiard predated the popularity of HRMs, so not truly a difference. Another is the pre-base or very easy base period...well it turns out Snell for instance used a pre-base easier period, before indulging in the base phase as according to his coach Lydiard. The important difference is in THAT use of HRM, where Lydiard wanted his athletes to 'know thyself', rather than rely on a tool. In that difference is the control by numbers and that instead of running by feel, you run by a device's numbers. Other than that the system again, is based on the same logic. I personally know many 45-55 who use the Maffetone method, as it keeps them inury free or more injury free. Fair enough!! I can't argue too much with the Maffetone method, it's pretty much Lydiard's method, only Lydiard came first AND accomplished oh so much more than Maffetone has. Maffetone coached an already elite ironman athlete, I beleive... Lydiard headed several national bodies in Europe and New Zealand and has 20 Olympic golds to his credit and thousands of international performances... Perhaps one day, I will provide Phil with an unbiased interview. Was your question based on familiarity of both methods and fashioned in an unbiased way? |

Why do you assume Maffetone copied Lydiards method?
That is a huge assumption on your part? Lorraine M sates, "though he came to his knowledge through the triathlon door it is very much aligned with what Lydiard propounded." This clearly does not suggest Maffetone copied Lydiards method. Can you provide evidence of such? |

Savannah Sutton from Augusta State was Freshmen of the year in the PBC and we had 4 of of the top 12 spots at conference, too (4 on the all conference team). That course was horribly muddy (and at least about 100-150m long, due to last minute changes out of GCSUs hands). Congrats to Jen Forward for closing the gap on Allison!! Hats off to Columbus!! They ran a near flawless race.
